KAYER BACKS MCILROY

Former world number one golfer Martin Kaymer has insisted that being the number one player in the world is a very big deal, implying that you are the best golfer in the world and all of the others are after your spot at the top of the pile.

Kaymer became the world’s number one golfer last year after he finished second to Luke Donald in the World Golf Championships: Accenture Match Play Championships last February but he had already secured the top spot after his Quarter Final win and the final hardly mattered for him.
But according to Kaymer, he would have loved to cap off his status as the number one player in the world with victory in the World Golf Championships when he had the opportunity.

After he scaled the heights of the golfing world, he received a call from fellow German Bernhard Langer, who became the first ever player to hold the number one spot after the introduction of the ranking system in 1986 and the only other German to become the world number one.

It has been revealed how he advised his countryman Martin Kaymer to keep himself within a very close circle and keep on honing his skills to hold on to the top spot and Kaymer has sent out the same message to new world number one Rory McIlroy of Ireland after he climbed to the top of the rankings a couple of weeks back.

Having been there and done everything at the top, Kaymer also suggested to McIlroy that he had a target on his head now and every other player would come after him, just the way Luke Donald came after him to take the number one crown and Martin Kaymer is hopeful that the 212 year old has the mettle in him to stay at the top for a long, long time.
