Presidents Cup golf

The Presidents Cup’s status can be measured by one of the top goals for the International team. It just wants it to be close. About the only upheaval the Presidents Cup has offered in recent times was Woody Austin dropping in the water with Robert Allenby charging Anthony Kim of a huge night out in San Francisco. Tiger having to confront his old caddie in a starting match few weeks after Steve Williams gave a racially tough comment regarding him.

United States have lost just one time since Presidents Cup started in the year 1994. They never lost in their home turf. They have 3 golfers – Matt Kuchar, Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods, who have won Memorial at Muirfield Village. They have just one golfer who has never taken part in a professional event – he is twenty year old Jordan Spieth. This reveals why Team International is at least concerned to make a game out of this.

Presidents Cup started on Thursday with 6 fourballs matches. There are few things that one must look at the Muirfield Village. All the things are going Spieth’s way in this year. He began the season with no status at all. Spieth would be coupled with Stricker against Brendon de Jonge and Ernie Els, and he could make it a stunning year with a better week. Keegan Bradley and Phil Mickelson produced the top Unites States team in a losing cause at Ryder Cup previous year at Medinah.

Woods will not overhaul Nicklaus

Scottish golfer Colin Montgomerie believes that Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major championship wins is safe from the hands of Tiger Woods. The former captain of the European Ryder Cup team was clear enough when he stated that Tiger has no chance of overtaking Nicklaus’ long standing record of 18 wins in the major championships and going one better.

Picking Woods as a sure shot breaker of the record set by Nicklaus was an absolute no brainer in the days he was an all conquering juggernaut, picking up jugs, cups, trophies and jackets for fun and many thought not only would he overtake the legendary Golden Bear, but he would do it with several majors to spare as well.

But things have changed a lot since then, Woods has not won a major title since his last title triumph in 2008 and in the five years since, he hasn’t even come close to winning one, fading away during the final rounds of the events.

And when asked about how he rated the chances of Tiger Woods of overhauling Nicklaus, Colin admitted that with the level of competition there is at the moment, securing five more major championships is quite a tough task for Tiger.

Moreover, he also alluded to the fact that in order to overtake Nicklaus, Tiger has to win the same number of majors that the likes of Seve Ballesteros and Phil Mickelson have won in their entire careers and he just doesn’t see Tiger doing that anymore.

Montgomerie stated that he might be world number one again but Tiger Woods has lost the killer instinct that made him so fearful for any golfer and on his day, Tiger was as close to perfection as possible but all that is in the past now and the future is bleak for him.

Steve Stricker On the Mark

Well-known golfer Steve Stricker has so far won a whopping twelve tournaments while playing on the PGA Tour, and these also include winning two of the most coveted FedEx Cup Playoff events. By far, the year 2009 was his most successful year, and he finished at second place on the money list, and he had three tournament victories.

He has been ranked the World No. 2 in the Official World Golf Ranking, and for a long fifty seven weeks, he has been in the list of the world’s best top ten golfers. And not only this, he was there in this spot for another hundred and fifty seven weeks consecutively from 2009 to 2012. Stricker has been a professional golfer since 1990, and there has been no looking back ever since. He has gone to win more events and tournaments than most golfers can only dream of, and needless to say, he is truly one of the best golfers that the world has ever seen.

Steve Stricker will be missing out on the FedEx Cup Playoffs which will be held at The Barclays next week, and this has been announced on the tour’s website. And this playoff is a part of the PGA Tour, so Stricker will be really falling behind with his contemporaries.

As it is, Steve Stricker has not been too active this year, and he has played a limited schedule so far this year. So when he injured his hamstring during a water skiing episode recently, it did not mean very well for the accomplished golfer at all. But it cannot be said that he did not try hard enough. He did play at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the PGA Championship as well, while bearing the injury. And it seems that now, Stricker has no option but to wait it out and wait for the injury to heal.

Popular sporting events

Now that the football season is approaching its end, or perhaps it would be better to call it a brief recess for nowadays it hardly ever stops, many football betters will be looking for alternative ways to achieve that very special adrenaline rush that only comes with sports betting.

Probably the most exciting sporting event to bet on this summer is cricket. With the Ashes coming to England this season we should expect some particularly exciting cricket and plenty of betting opportunities. The first match in the series starts on 14th July at the Lords Cricket Ground. Odds on an England win are 5/6, on an Australia win they are 13/5, and on a draw the odds are 5/2. Odds on England retaining the Ashes are 9/20, and on Australia winning then odds are 4/1. This is a back to back Ashes series so when the action draws to a close in the UK, it will soon start again in Australia.

If test match cricket is a little slow for you there is also plenty of twenty20 and one day cricket to bet on, and don’t forget the series against New Zealand; it is by far from a foresaid conclusion that England will win it.

The flat season is just getting going, and there will be some very heavy betting this year on the classics. Picking a Derby or an Oaks winner shouldn’t be too difficult and much more predictable than the Grand National.

Bubba Watson laughs off miracle Masters shot

It was a miracle shot that won Bubba Watson his first major title in golf but according to the man himself, he would rather not have a repeat of that famous lob that win him the Masters title at Augusta.

Speaking of the high hook shot that he hit from the pine straw at the 10th hole of the Georgia Club, which was his second hole in a winning sudden death playoff, Watson stated that he hopes he will be able to hit the fairway from now onwards and would not need to practice that particular shot anymore.

The ball that Watson hit the ball that sailed through a gap in the trees and down onto the greens before rolling and rolling to a halt just ten feet away from the hole and it was this shot that helped him defeat the South African Louis Oosthuizen few minutes later. Bubba Watson is known as a big hitter and was speaking via conference call to promote the defense of his Masters title at the Augusta National, the first major championship of the new golfing season, which will take place between the 11th and 14th of April.

He stated that the other shots that he hit throughout the weekend were just as important, stating that obviously the shot he hit that won him the playoff was the most important but added that the other shots he hit were just as difficult but at that time, nobody cared about what he was doing.
And Bubba Watson that the shot he hit has gone into golf folklore and stated that he wants that shot to live, and is proud to have left a legacy on the game that many people claim will live in the hearts of those who saw for many years to come.

Phil Mickelson makes a miss at 59

Tiger Woods had made a silly miss at the Phoenix Open where he missed the 60 which could have become the sixth round of 59 in the history of PGA tour and he could have had his name after Stuart Appleby who made the record at the Greenbrier Classic in 2010.

In an almost the same manner, Phil Mickelson did the putt in such a way at the Waste Management Open held at TPC Scottsdale that it went to the last hole but almost kissed the edge and hopped away. The miss was by less than an inch.

Phil Mickelson was on his way to break the 60s given the fiery shots that he was making at the Open. Very few people could have broken 60 and the guild include Al Geiberger at Danny Thomas Memphis Classic, Chip Beck at Las Vegas Invitational, David Duval at Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, Paul Goydos at John Deere Classic and Stuart Appleby at Greenbrier Classic.

Phil began the event on No. 10 and the event was held at the par-71 course and it is really difficult to nail a par-5 but taking shots closer to 59. The course was, however not new to Phil but it must have been his new saw grip that made him slip just near to breaking 60 although he gave a really short and brilliant game and paced to round of 59.

It was Bo Van Pelt that set the course record instead of the expected Phil Mickelson. By his first nine shots, Phil was able to break 30 for the eighth time in his professional career. But the miss has not come his way of leading the round by four shots.

Stricker attempting to move on

American golf player Steve Stricker had a real hard time getting over Ryder Cup compared to any other disappointment he has faced in the last twenty four years as a professional, even including those years when Steve lost his PGA Tour card.

Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker did not win a single match throughout the week. Steve lost his singles match against Martin Kaymer which allowed the European golfer to retain the dup. But the most painful thing was probably the when he failed to get up and down from a standard chip behind seventeenth hole.

On Thursday, the Americal golfer told that he felt a whole lot of responsibility for not snatching a point. It was hard that he and Tiger did not score a point. European team rallied from a – point short on the last day to secure the cup for a 2nd straight time. Still, Steve has not seen final day’s highlights. But he has been informed with everything that fell into place for the European team.

Steve told that in golf, there are plenty of failures, but the point is how a golfer picks himself up from that position. Steve Stricker won Comeback Player of the Year for back to back 2 years and he in fact reached world number two position after that.

He told that it was really disappointing when he struggled a lot with his game during mid – 2000s and the only person he was letting down was himself.
